Classsic Poul Anderson. This is a short novel of only ~170 pages. The premise is that three people from different eras, a modern man, a Rus from about 1000 AD, and a Hun from about 400AD are caught up in the wreck of a time ship of someone from the future and end up in the times of ancient Crete and Knossos before the volcanic explosion that shattered that civilization. They there interact in somewhat complex ways with the the civilizations of the time. The story is interesting and the portrayal of all peoples from their times rings true. I also like that the story is as long as it has to be and doesn't suffer from the modern bloat you see today.

Thought I had read all of Poul Anderson's books but had missed an excellent one. Loved it.
This is as nice a piece of writing as you will encounter anywhere. The Greek mythology, view into the Mediterranean world of 1500 B.C., is to step back in time.
A strange book about four people from randomly-chosen historical periods plucked out of time by some futuristic time traveling machine and cast together in ancient Greece on the eve of the great earthquake that destroyed the Minoan civilization. The premise sounds promising but the execution is so poorly imagined and executed that the book is really no fun to read. The characters have no life, there is little suspense and the author seems to imagine that four people thrust together from vastly different times and geographies would just get along like fellow passengers on a guided coach tour of Europe. Sorry, can't recommend this book.
Poul Anderson always writes a good story, both narrative and quality of writing. This was absorbing fantasy/historical fiction.
Very good time travel story with an interesting historical background. Poul Anderson was one of the great Golden Age scifi authors and was always particularly fine at evoking and describing an idyllic natural world.
I bought this book on the strength of the name of the author and was not disappointed. So interesting how the experience made better people out not all who survived it and how shattered myths created stronger realities.
I liked Anderson's unfolding take on Atlantis and the local region, and flashes of really good languaging. Solid characterization, although the lead male didn't grab me for much of the story. I understood his passion but didn't find him endearing or particularly interesting. I got to know him pretty well but didn't warm to him, until his late reflections.
Gently disagree with another reviewer who felt the female lead was presented as over the hill in her late thirties or forty. She gets more interesting as she gets older and is presented as compellingly attractive and alluring. If anything, her overall charms are writ too large.
